Thursday Movie Picks #317: Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Pride

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Pride

---

This the last theme of the Seven Deadly Sins Edition. I hope you had fun making your picks; it has certainly been a very challenging edition, including this very last one: pride. My picks today are the first three that immediately came to mind.

Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Obvious pick with the theme in the title. Mr Darcy's pride comes through in that proposal scene where he basically says Elizabeth is financially and socially beneath him and her family is so pathetically desperate, but it's okay because even though he struggled with it he likes her anyway and then expects her to not be insulted by that.

White Oleander (2002)
Ingrid's, a self-center beautiful intellectual artist, pride is wounded when her boyfriend cheats on her causing her to murder him as revenge and leaving her daughter to go through the foster system when she is convicted and sent to prison.

Great Expectations (1998)
Young Estella was extremely proud and haughty. She had wealth and beauty and she knew it as she looked disdainfully at poor young Finn, whose family was paid by her adoptive mother to be her playmate.

Thursday Movie Picks #312: Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Wrath

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Wrath

---

This requires quite a bit of thought. I feel like I know a lot more movies that fit this theme than what I can remember. And I'm picking particular scenes in each movies.

Closer (2004)
I've picked this before very recently but this is such a great wrath scene. It's that scene where Clive Owen's character confronts his wife played by Julia Roberts about her infidelity and he relentlessly presses her to divulge the intimate details of her affair.

 Wanted (2008)
It's that office scene. You could see the anger building on Wesleys's face; the veins in his forehead starts popping and his face grows redder and puffier as his bullying boss yells at him until he explodes and starts yelling back.

In Bruges (2008)
This is a great dark comedy so this scene is more on the funny side. Ralph Fienne's character just finishes a call, one he is not pleased about, and starts to repeatedly smash the phone on his desk until his wife comes into the office and tell him to stop because "it's an inanimate object".

The Social Network (2010)
It's that scene where Saverin just found out his shares were diluted, he stomps his way to Zuckerberg, rips out the laptop Zuckerberg was using and slams it on the table and tells him to lawyer up.

Thursday Movie Picks #304: Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Envy

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Envy

---

Welcome back to the Seven Deadly Sins edition. I hope this edition has been fun for all and today we're on the fourth sin which is envy. I'm just going for whatever came immediately to mind.

Cinderella (2015)
Cinderella's stepmother's cruelty is the result mostly of her jealousy; jealous that Cinderella possess beauty and intelligence that her own daughters lack and that she is so beloved and will always come first for her new husband. I really didn't like the costume choices for this movie, it looked cartoony and gaudy. What I did like was character development especially of Cinderella, the prince and her stepmother.

Dorian Gray (2009)
The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favourite books. I've seen this and the 1945 version and I can't say I like either that much. However, if had to choose, I'll pick this 2009 version because I really dislike the Dorian in the 1945 one. So jealousy...Dorian, a handsome young man who becomes jealous of a painting of himself because it, unlike him, will stay young forever and so he makes an extraordinary wish.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
A man is betrayed by his best friend who is jealous of his good fortunes. It was an ok movie.

Thursday Movie Picks #295: Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Gluttony

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Gluttony

---

Welcome back to the Seven Deadly Sins edition and today's theme is Gluttony. This is a tough one, because it seems quite similar to Greed. But here is what I understand to be the difference: gluttony refers to over consumption while greed refers to over accumulation. So with that, I could have gone a few different ways...movies about over consumption of food, alcohol, drugs, etc. Instead, I'm going to go the supernatural horror route and here are my picks.

Interview with the Vampire (1994)
Lestat creates the child vampire Claudia and she becomes a talented little vampire luring victims with her little girl charms.

30 Days of Night (2007)
A coven of vampire kills a whole town during their 30 days of night.

Jennifer's Body (2009)
In this horror comedy a cheerleader develops an insatiable appetite for boys.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Seven Deadly Sins Edition - Lust

---

The first Thursday of the next seven months will be the Seven Deadly Sins edition and the first one up is Lust. Here are three lusty movies that immediately came to mind.

Cruel Intentions (1999)
Spoiled rich lusty teenagers playing a game of sexual conquests. Classic 90's teen drama.

Unfaithful (2002)
Well doesn't that poster say it all.

Adore (2013)
What's more lusty than a pair of childhood friends and neighbours who start what would eventually be long affairs with each other's sons.
