Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five titles and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is TMP Television Edition - Comedies

---

Ahh...it's the last Thursday of the year. Keeping it light, here are my picks of comedies I've recently seen.

Parks and Recreation (2009–2015)
I've only just seen it. I binged watch the entire series over a month or two. It is funny and cute, and it had a great series finale.

Sisters (2017 - )
Australian series that follows a woman dealing with the aftermath of the confession of her sick elderly father, a fertility doctor, that he had used his own sperm in a number of "In Vitro Fertilisation" procedures. This was such a charming funny series. I hope there will be a season two.

The Hook Up Plan (2018 - )
French romantic comedy series about a woman who cannot get over a breakup so her girlfriends secretly hire an escort to give her the boyfriend experience to help her move on. Unfortunately she of course thinks the dates are real and starts to like the guy which puts her friends in a difficult position of how to tell her the truth. While I didn't like how fast the characters were throwing the word "love" around, I get that there are only 8 episodes so they had to move it along quickly. Overall I did find it funny and cute. The season ended with a positive note but was quite open, and as I also enjoyed the story arcs of the friends too I hope there is a second season.

Thursday Movie Picks #232: 2019 Movies You're Looking Forward To

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

---

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is 2019 Movies You're Looking Forward To

---

I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty of interesting upcoming movies, but here are five that comes to mind now.

P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, the 2019 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule (Preliminary) is up. There are nine empty slots, three of which are for the Halloween Edition, so do give your suggestions.

Aladdin (2019)
Love the animated original, though I have not seen it in a long time. Also curious what a Guy Ritchie Disney musical movie looks like.

The Lion King (2019)
I almost never watch movie trailers anymore but I saw this and it looked spectacular. So excited to see the movie now.

The Woman in the Window (2019)
An adaptation of the popular 2018 thriller. While I didn't like the book much I can see why it has been quickly made into a movie and I'm curious how it will turn out. It is about an agoraphobic woman who spies on her neighbours and witnesses something...and she also loves watching classic thrillers. See, even the premise sounds a little like Rear Window doesn't it?

Zombieland 2 (2019)
Wow I can't believe this is actually happening and with the original cast. It has been a while since there's been any good horror comedy.

Knives Out (2019)
I like the modern noir Brick so Knives Out had me at "modern murder mystery in a classic whodunit style". Plus it has a fantastic cast.

Thursday Movie Picks #231: It's a Party

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is It's a Party

---

It's near the end of the year, the time when a lot parties are thrown which brings to today's theme. Here are my picks, movies I've recently watched with a party theme.

P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, the 2019 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule (Preliminary) is up. There are nine empty slots, three of which are for the Halloween Edition, so do give your suggestions.

Office Christmas Party (2016)
A tech company throws an over the top party to woo a big client. I actually like this, found it quite funny.

Neighbors (2014)
A couple's quiet life is disrupted when a fraternity moves next door, hosting parties night after night. This was an ok movie as well. Though I do not think it was great enough to get a sequel.

Superbad (2007)
Two teens try to score alcohol for a party they're going to. I remember hearing about this quite a lot way back in 2007, but never got to see it until now, so there was an expectation that it would be great. It was just ok for me...I think probably because I'm no longer the target audience and that the movie has aged a little?

Thursday Movie Picks #230: Meet the Parents

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Meet the Parents

---

Ahh it's the holiday season and also the time, at least in movies, where characters introduce their significant others to their parents. Here are my picks of movie where there are characters meeting their partner's parents for the first time, though not all take place during the holidays and the first of which is the one like best.

P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, the 2019 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule (Preliminary) is up. There are nine empty slots, three of which are for the Halloween Edition, so do give your suggestions.

Brooklyn (2015)
Saoirse Ronan's character meets her boyfriend's family for the first time over dinner. And if I'm remembering this correctly, prior to that she tries to prepare for the meeting and meal by practicing eating spaghetti since she had never eaten it before. It's a small part of the movie but it really gave the movie a sense of time and place.

The Proposal (2009)
Sandra Bullock's character follows her assistant back to his hometown for his grandmother's birthday and where they plan to announce their engagement. This was really popular when it came out but I wasn't quite into it. I'm a little curious how I'd find it now

The Family Stone (2005)
Sarah Jessica Parker plays an uptight, conservative businesswoman visiting her boyfriend's family for the Christmas holiday. Not really a fan of this either but it fits the theme.

2019 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule (Preliminary)

Hi everyone! The upcoming 2019 run of Thursday Movie Picks will be the sixth year I'm doing the series. With each year, it has been harder and harder coming up with new themes, so you will see some repeat themes.

As with past years I have a few dates open for suggestions. There are NINE spots open (I've highlighted the dates, but I may rearrange the order of the themes on the final schedule). If you're interested in submitting themes here are the submission criteria:
a) must have participated in a few TMPs and have commented on previous posts.
b) submit three (no more as I'll probably have a hard time choosing) suggestions by posting a comment on this post. Only on this post.
