This week's Thursday Movie Picks is TMP Television Edition - Holiday
---
There are few options, so I'm picking the ones that came to mind first. By the way, the 2022 preliminary schedule will be up after this.
Home for Christmas (2019 - 2020)
I really really enjoyed this. I've said this before, there’s a very indie romantic comedy quality to Home for
Christmas which I like. It’s charming, heartfelt and funny.
Dash & Lily (2020)
I've
actually read the book this was based on back in 2015 and I had totally
forgot that I had and had to check my Goodreads. Anyway suffice to say
the book wasn't memorable, the TV series equally so. I dunno, the series was a little too young and cutesy and the actors playing the teens looked too old for their roles. Like I understand why they usually hire 20 or even sometimes 30 somethings for teen roles as adult actors can work longer hours and for teen dramas with very mature and heavy themes older actors also makes sense. However for these more juvenile sort of TV or movies, why can't they pick someone younger or at least looks younger? It is just so silly to see a 26 year old that looks 26 try to "act" very girly and cutesy. The series has these Halloween episodes each season where characters play a game called the Halloween Heist and it is soo crazy and funny.

Brooklyn 99 is one that I should've started a long time ago. I've heard nothing but good things.
ReplyDeleteIt is and very bingeable.
DeleteWe match on Home for Christmas and Dash & Lily, although I enjoyed the latter much more than you it seems haha
ReplyDeleteDash & Lily - I've seen its IMDB ratings. Quite a lot of people seem to like it as well.
DeleteI have to start watching Brooklyn Nine Nine even though it has been on for years. I have not seen the other 2 and not sure I will as they sound Harlequin to me.
ReplyDeleteHarlequin is like Lifetime and Hallmark shows right?
DeleteDash & Lily is more like a CW series, aimed at young teens...maybe 12-18.
As for Home for Christmas, I too thought it looked like a Lifetime/Hallmark series before I saw it...because of the whole holiday romance thing...those channels love doing cheesy holiday romance. Well the premise of the Home for Christmas series is a little like Bridget Jones Diary the whole being a singleton during the holidays, so just imagine a Bridget-like-character but one that is less silly and more endearing and with a more indie romantic comedy feel to the series - it definitely is not a cheesy Lifetime/Hallmark-ish type of show.
