This week's Thursday Movie is Your Comfort Movie

---

Your comfort movie - the kind you can watch over and over again and never grow tired of them and lift your spirits when you're feeling blue. I have a quite a few so here's 3 of them.

Stardust (2007)
Absolutely love this movie! I'd say this is a fairy tale for adults, I don't think kids would get much of the humour. Anyway it's such a magical, charming and funny movie; it just makes me happy and I love the score as well. The gist of the story is a young man goes on a journey into a magical world to catch a fallen star for the girl he loves. But he isn't the only one looking for the star: three witches and ruthless princes want the star as well.

Love Actually (2003)
I think everyone would have seen or at least have heard of Love Actually by now. It's the movie that gets played quite a bit during this festive season. You either love it or hate it; I love it! It makes me laugh and cry, I just think it has a lot of heart.

A Little Romance (1979)
I've picked this movie before in the early days of TMP; it's picked again today because I think it's quite a forgotten gem having fallen through the cracks of time and it is one of my favorite movies that I revisit from time to time. It's also one of those movies that I think could do what the Before (Sunrise, Sunset, Midnight) series did, exploring what happens to the characters years or in this case decades later - I would just just love to see it. Anyway...A Little Romance is about two young intellectual teens (I think they're 13), an American girl (a young Diane Lane) and a French boy, who meet in the Palace of Versailles. They become fast friends and soon realise they are probably each others soulmates. When the girl learns her family is moving back to the US, they both run away to Venice to the Bridge of Sigh because legend say that the couple that share a kiss underneath it will be granted eternal love and bliss. The kids are adorable and the movie is just so so charming, shot against some very historic and scenic places in Europe.

  4. I wasn't too crazy about Stardust, I thought it was fine but once was enough. However I love Love, Actually which is one I'd list among my comfort movies. Also love the mention of A Little Romance, what a sweet charmer that film is. Both kids are wonderful and natural...of course we know what's happened to Diane Lane but I wonder about the boy, and Laurence Olivier is just perfectly irascible in his portrayal of their bemused accomplice.

    1. I think the boy is no longer acting. I agree the kids were both very natural, it's like the camera just caught them being themselves.

    1. Love Actually - I agree it is a gem; I can't think of any other movie with intersecting stories that does it as well and with great rewatchability factor.
