This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Halloween Edition - Body Horror [Suggested by Myerla]

---

Hey it's October and the whole of this month I'm running the Halloween Edition. Take a look at what's in store for the rest of the weeks.

October 5 - Halloween Edition: Masks
October 12 - Halloween Edition: Dolls
October 19 - Halloween Edition: Body Horror [Suggested by Myerla]
October 26 - Halloween/Television Edition: Horror

This week's theme is one from Myerla

Black Swan (2010)
I think there were a few in these, one was Nina's broken nail, then there was feather/thorn thing and then there was also the creepy scene with the ex prima ballerina, I can't remember what happen but I think it also had a body horror scene.

Alien
Don't know which Alien movie I saw, just that I saw it when I was very young and was thoroughly freaked out and have not seen an Alien movie after.

The Fly (1986)
Another one where I saw it very young, under ten, freaked me out, never going to see it again.

An American Werewolf in London (1981)
This is here of course, like The Fly for the transformation scenes. Also if you like werewolf movies, this is one of the good ones.

So that's it...my three picks. What movies made your list today?

  1. All terrific films. Alien is fantastic though Aliens is my favorite of the series. I LOVE An American Werewolf in London and thought of it for this but had used it before. A great blend of humor and horror.

This is most definitely not a genre I tend towards but I managed three by including a film that to this day I can't remember why I watched or stuck with once I started but I suppose since I was able to use it today it wasn't a complete waste of time. Still it's include more as a warning to avoid.

Altered States (1980)-Ken Russell directed head trip about a college professor (William Hurt) who uses ancient tribal halogenics and an isolation tank to achieve another level of consciousness eventually devolving to a primordial ooze of energy as his colleagues and estranged wife (Blair Brown) fight to restrain him from destroying himself. Screen bow for both Hurt and Drew Barrymore as one of his daughters.

Society (1989)-Bottom of the barrel sludge about a teenage boy (Billy Warlock) who senses that he’s different from the rest of his family who mix with a certain level of society while he is more of an everyday kind of guy. After several disturbing incidents he discovers the truth which is revealed in revolting fashion. Terrible junk.

The Fly (1958)-Inventor Andre Delambre (David Hedison) is experimenting with his teleportation device, first with inanimate objects which he’s successful with and eventually animals where he runs into problems. Working on the glitches he decides to try the machine out on himself….but unbeknownst to him a fly gets in before he hits the switch and a melding occurs and he becomes THE FLY!! A big drive-in hit on release this isn’t as technically savvy as the 80’s remake but fun on its own merits and hey it’s got Vincent Price in the cast, always a plus.

  2. Black Swan is most definitely a body horror flick. And it's a might good one, at that. The others are both excellent films, as well. I know they're on the creepy side, but I hope you go back to them. They're just that good.

    1. Black Swan - I had not seen the trailer of it I think before I saw it, so did not see the body horror aspect of it coming.

  3. Still need to see The Fly and An American Werewolf in London but both sound great!
Alien is really good - I'm not terribly familiar with the franchise either but the original is a top one for me 😊

  4. I don’t remember the body horror just the horror at how it is considered a great film. I still have not seen Alien because it is just too scary for me. I still have to see the Fly and American Werewolf and want t9 even though I know they are scary

    1. An American Werewolf in London, I would say is a little less scary, so go with that first.

  5. I love that you went with Black Swan. I really need to see The Fly, it's popular today.

  6. I love the transformation scene in American Werewolf in London! Even with today's spectacular special effects technology, I don't think anyone has topped it.

    1. I've not been able to compare anything side by side, but I think some the werewolf movies and TV shows I've seen do quite a good job...Try Ginger Snaps and Being Human.
