Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share three movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple simple: Each week there is a topic for you to create a list of three movies. Your picks can either be favourites/best, worst, hidden gems, or if you're up to it one of each. For further details visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is  So-Bad-It's-Good (Suggested by Daniel)

 ---

This week's topic is suggested by Daniel at Dancin' Dan On Film.
I'd like to think that that movies I like are actually good so this was a tough list to come up with.

Batman & Robin (1997)
I've never been a fan of Batman but for some reason as kid I loved Batman & Robin, which is now probably the worst rated Batman movie on IMDB. I suppose I liked it then because it had two young characters, Robin and Batgirl and as a kid that appealed to me. Now I look upon it with nostalgia; yes it's bad, it's cheesy but still fun unlike the oh-so-serious Dark Knight trilogy.

Twilight (2008)
I actually do like the Twilight movie, the first one at least, still. It's not great of course, there were a few things I think it did well, but the bad bits made it a fun watch: like the cheesy lines, the horrible wigs, the general awkwardness and the constipated look Edward had in the science lab scene were fun to make fun of. Then there were the Kristen Stewart's quirks, I think it was her tucking her hair and biting her lip, which would make fun drinking games.

Con Air (1997)
I had picked this once recently before. Everything that happens in this is pretty much dumb but also cheesy fun. This one fits right it today. I mean just look at Cage's stance in the poster.

  1. I love this theme because I enjoy a good campy movie every now and then. I can't say I'm a fan of the ones you picked though. Though Twilight will hold a special place in my heart just for my friend raging through it.

    1. Aww does your friend like the book? Or just hate the movie generally?

  2. I gotta admit I kinda liked the first Twilight. I haven't seen the other two but I've heard nothing but bad things about Batman & Robin, even Clooney regretted doing that thing, and Con Air, well Cage is enough to make a bad film great.

    1. Hey hi five! Can't say I like the other Twilight movies. I've only watch the others only once and can't remember much of them. I do remember the wig situation got worse in the other movies and Breaking Dawn had the pregnant thing which was boring and they did this awful special effects thing with Reneesme's aging.
Yeah I heard about the Clooney thing.

  3. Ugh, Batman & Robin. So terrible. Still, the best drinking movie ever if you throw one back every time you hear a pun. In other words, I approve of that pick. And definitely Con Air. What wonderful crap, that is. As for Twilight...sigh...I just hate that one.

    1. Ooohh...I think Dr Freeze? Mr Freeze or whatever his villain name is had quite a number of puns.

  4. That Batman was horrible so was the one where Jim Carrey is the Riddler. Twilight is just ...not great. Con Air is funny and the pose by Cage is hilarious!

    1. Yep Batman Forever. I think all the Batman movies before the Dark Knight trilogy were campy and that is just not my thing.

  5. Good choices. I saw B&R in the theatre and was tempted to walk out it was so terrible. Ugh Twilight, the pits. Con-Air is the most fun of these three because of its sheer preposterousness which Cage buys into totally. That poster says it all.

    1. I think Cage had the cheesiest stance of the three in the poster; macho cheese.

  6. I also generally prefer to only see movies that look, you know, GOOD, but every once in a while you hear so much about a certain movie, or just stumble across it on cable and wonder "WTF is THAT?!?" and you just have to watch!

I WISH I thought Twilight was so bad it's good, but for me it was just plain BAD. Outside of the scene where Edward gets his first scent of Bella and goes all crazy-eyes, that is. THAT was some camp goodness, right there! But the rest of it was just dull and dreary.

Batman & Robin, though... It's garish and outlandish and all kinds of fun, even if it is bad. And that's a step above the recent dark and brooding and exhausting Batman movies, in my eyes.

    1. Twilight - there were other campy fun, mostly with the vampires and the whole scent thing. The baseball scene when the wind blew Bella's hair causing the evil vampire to get a whiff of her scent and Edward and his family immediately stands on guard, that was sooo cheesy. I don't think a lot of people gave Twilight a second watch but seriously if you do, it is a FUN movie to watch.

Batman & Robin - I totally agree. Other than the bit with the Joker in the Dark Knight, I find all of the movies in The Dark Knight extremely lengthy and exhausting.

  7. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen any of these. I watched a preview for one of the Twilight movies once and was dissolving in laughter over the bad acting. :-)

  8. Ahh, I very nearly picked Twilight myself! Good choice :)
