Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five titles and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is TMP Television Edition - Friendship

---

Last week of the year. Hope you had a fabulous one and Happy 2018!

Now for those of you unaware, the preliminary 2018 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule is up. If you want to make a suggestion do so by this Sunday. New updated schedule will be up on Tuesday.

On to this week's TV theme: Friendship. It's one of those themes that I feel like I've seen a whole lot more but I'm not coming up with a lot of titles.

Crashing (2016 -)
A group of mostly 20 and 30 somethings who are friends/lovers/rivals live at a disused hospital as property guardians. At the center of it is a pair of childhood best friends who have recently reconnected and have always been sort of in love with each other but have trouble admitting it, so much so that when one or the other inadvertently admits it, each immediately take it back treating it is a joke. They're a disaster and there's a sort of recklessness to their jokes so I can't see it ending well for them. Anyway this series surprised me, I found it really funny and am so hoping there will be a second season.

Friends (1994-2004)
It is very much part of my childhood. Sometimes I catch an episode of Friends on TV and I'm still able to laugh as if I've not seen it once or twice before.

Friends from College  (2017-)
College friends now in their forties, reconnect when all of them end up living in the same city. It's not as memorable as my other picks today but I still found it funny so will be tuning in for season 2.

Thursday Movie Picks #180: 2018 Movies You're Looking Forward To

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is 2018 Movies You're Looking Forward To

---

For those of you unaware, the preliminary 2018 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule is up.

I haven't really been up to date on upcoming releases so there are probably some that have escaped my radar and even of my picks here, I've not seen any of the trailers for those that have ones.

The Bell Jar (2018)
To be directed by Kirsten Dunst, with Dakota Fanning playing Esther. A few years ago there was supposed to be one with Julia Stiles as Esther, so I don't know if this is the same thing just with a different cast and crew, but whatever, I read the book a long time ago and have been wanting to see an adaptation.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle (2018)
I love the title, it's so intriguing isn't it? Which was why I read the book (plus the book has some beautiful covers) and so yes I am looking forward to the movie. The gist: two sisters live with their uncle in happy isolation after a tragedy, that is until a cousin arrives insisting on change. It's a slow burn short novel that's haunting and creepy that could make a really good movie.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018)
The book is sweet and cute and I think the movie could be the same. The gist: A teen girl's secret love letters (ones that were never meant to be sent) get mysteriously mailed out to her crushes.

Winchester (2018)
Ever heard of the Winchester Mystery House? Look it up if you haven't. This is about the woman that built the house and why she built it.

The New Mutants (2018) / X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2018)
I'm just going to lump this two together. I still am generally tired of superhero titles, but I love the X-Men, so I am still looking forward to these.

Thursday Movie Picks #179: Small Towns

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Small Towns

---

For those of you unaware, the preliminary 2018 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule is up.
So it's small town week today and I'm picking the ones I like.

Friday Night Lights (2004)
It's about a small Texas town that's obsessed with American football and the pressure it puts on the high school team, which is pretty sad I think. Anyway I re watched Varsity Blues recently and it pretty much has the same story line which I did not remember at all and I'm like what? I mean I know the Friday Night Lights is based on a book about an actual team, so is Varsity Blues a take on that team too?

Waitress (2007)
A pregnant waitress in a very unhappy marriage hopes to win a pie baking contest to use the money to leave her husband. A favourite; it's sweet, sad and funny too.

Shimmer Lake (2017)
The local police try to figure out what happened with a bank heist gone wrong involving people in their small town. I actually enjoyed this one, quite surprised that it only has 6.2 on IMDB. It's sort of a mystery/drama that's quite funny too.

2018 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule (Preliminary)

Hi everyone! I finally have the 2018 themes. Please note this is not the final schedule as I will be adding suggested themes and may reorganize all the themes.

So anyway, this has been the fifth year I'm doing this. For those that have stuck around: thank you so much and I hope you continue to do so. The TMP Television Edition is a new edition I started in 2017 and it's back for 2018 as they have been so much fun. As before they will be on the last Thursday of each month. You can pick TV series or mini-series, just NOT TV movies.

Lastly, I've opened up NINE dates for suggestions on next year's schedule including one for the Halloween Edition. [Wendell you have already made your suggestions and I have already picked two of them.] Everyone else if you're interested here are the submission criteria:
a) must have participated in a few TMPs and have commented on previous posts.
b) submit two (no more as I'll probably have a hard time choosing) suggestions by posting a comment on this post. Only on this post.

Thursday Movie Picks #178: Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan Makeover

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share your movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan Makeover

---

There are so many of these makeover movies so I'm sure you are spoiled for choice.Anyway here are my three picks.

Grease (1978)
Good girl Sandy falls for a greaser so she gets a makeover to be one of the Pink Ladies. One of my favorite movies and love the songs! This is also probably one of the only movies that the guy had a makeover too.

The Princess Diaries (2001)
When Mia finds out she is the heir to some European country she gets a makeover to become a princess. The movie is sweet. Mia and her friends were funny and cute and Mandy Moore was great as the mean girl. Anyway I was so mad that when the second movie came out they chucked out Mia's best friend's brother, but I guess he was busy with Rooney.

Strictly Ballroom (1992)
When his dancing partner leaves him, experienced ballroom dancer Scott takes Fran a beginner dancer as his partner for an upcoming competition. And so she gets intense training and a makeover for it. Of the three, I think this is probably the least known; I highly recommend it. It is such a charming charming movie.

Thursday Movie Picks #177: TMP Television Edition - Workplace

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five titles and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

---

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is TMP Television Edition - Workplace

---

There are a lot of workplace TV shows when you think about. All the cop, legal and medical dramas are all workplace shows and I tried my very best to not pick one of those except for one. I'm picking the ones I like this week.

The Office (2001 - 2003) & The Office (2005 - 2013)
Follows the lives of employees at a paper company. I've seen both the UK version and the US one, although not all since there were so many seasons. I think I stopped up until Jim and Pam got married. Anyway I enjoyed both versions.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013 - )
Follows the lives of detectives at Brooklyn's 99th Precinct. I don't watch a lot of comedies, but this is one of the current one still airing that I love. It's funny, it's sharp and the characters are super geeky about the things they love, it's cute.

Superstore (2015 - )
Follows the lives of employees at a superstore. A new favourite which I only started watching from the second season. It's funny and just very easy to get into even when you haven't started from the beginning.

Boston Public (2000 - 2004)
Follows the lives of faculty members at a high school. It's been soo long since I saw this. Anyway I like that they show a different side to school.
