This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Coming Home

---

Just a little reminder, I posted the 2017 schedule last Monday. The are 7 dates open for theme suggestions. So this is the last call for themes, keep them coming if you still have some more ideas (comment on last Monday's post). I'll make my picks and post the final updated schedule late Saturday.

I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998)
I don't even remember much of this, but hey it fits the theme and if you're nostalgic for the 90's take a trip back to the late 90's with teen star Jonathan Taylor Thomas (or JTT as his called on all those teen magazines) as a college student trying to make his way home for Christmas.

Wind Chill (2007)
Two college students share a ride home for the holidays but their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and they are trapped in the cold. Apparently there's a supernatural element to this which I somehow have totally forgot.

Beautiful Girls (1996)
The best out of the three: a guy goes back to his hometown to contemplate about his career and if he should get married.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Parties

I've posted the 2017 Thursday Movie Picks schedule on Monday. Please have a look if your have not. There are 7 dates open for theme suggestions. If you think there's a theme we have yet to cover, please add a comment on Monday's post to submit your suggestions. Thanks. The complete updated schedule will be posted just before the new year.

Now on to today's pick which is a little late.

The Great Gatsby (2013)
Jay Gatsby's parties; it's really the only thing people know about him. Since this is a Baz Luhrmann movie, the parties are even more loud, extravagant and glittery.

Marie Antoinette (2006)
Party like it's the 18th century: big wigs, powdered faces, beautiful costumes and cakes...lots of pastel colored cakes. This movie is so, so gorgeous to look at.

Can't Hardly Wait (1998)
It's a last night of high school party movie. I was looking at the photos it had on IMDB and I had forgotten that so many of the 90's teen stars made cameo appearances on this. I

2017 Thursday Movie Picks Schedule

Hey! So I finally have the 2017 themes ready! Any questions, please leave a comment.

This year I have a new TMP special edition - A TMP Television Edition. I think the past year I've seen more TV series than movies and I thought wouldn't it be great to have a TV edition. I contemplated doing a standalone spinoff series, but was unsure if I could commit to another day of blog post or if anyone was interested in participating in the series as well, so I'm just putting it together with TMP and they will run on the last Thursday of each month. You can pick TV series or mini-series, just NOT TV movies.

I'm revising some of my rules too. I know we all love to share more of our picks, so I suggest 3-5 picks. Anymore than that it just becomes a long list. You can also pick them for whatever reasons you like. I know most usually go for favourites, but I've seen some creative picks in the last two years which is always fun. So simply pick 3 to 5 titles and tell us why you picked them. The last rule of sharing your link in the inlinkz widget and linking back to my blog on your own blog post still stands of course.

Lastly, I've opened up seven dates for suggestions on next year's schedule. If you're interested, you can submit a maximum of two suggestions in the comment section below. I'll choose 7 out of all the suggestions I've received. If you've made a suggestion in previous years which I have not used, you may resubmit again for next year's consideration. All I ask is that if you do decide to submit a topic please ensure that you will participate for the Thursday it's allocated. Here are the open dates available:

Thursday Movie Picks #127: Video/Arcade/Board Game Movies

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share three movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple simple: Each week there is a topic for you to create a list of three movies. Your picks can either be favourites/best, worst, hidden gems, or if you're up to it one of each. For further details visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Video/Arcade/Board Game Movies

---

I generally think movies based on video/arcade/board games are bad, most of the reviews said they were anyway, so I haven't really make any effort to watch any of them. I may have watch both the Silent Hill movies in parts when they aired on TV, but I just wasn't really into them. So my picks today will be three that I'm curious about.

Assassin's Creed (2016)
I mostly want to see this because of the actors, who generally star in good movies or at the very least interesting ones. Reviews are still not out yet so yeah I'm curious. Saw bits of the trailer and it looks kinda cool.

Clue (1985 & ?)
I have not seen the '85 version and now there's a new adaptation in the works. I do like who whodunnits like And Then There Were None and Gosford Park, so I'd like to check out both Clue adaptations.

Ouija (2014) & Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
If I'm not mistaken, unlike others, these two are like the official Ouija movies based on the Hasbro board game. The first one had really bad ratings but the second one looks like it's not bad.

Thursday Movie Picks #126: Movies based on Toys

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share three movie picks each Thursday. This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Movies based on Toys

---

Today is one of those themes where I think "what was I thinking", plus for some reason I excluded board games (which will be in next week's theme) making today that much more challenging. My picks today are two that I like and one that I want to check out.

*I will post a new list of themes sometime next week.

The Lego Movie (2014)
I didn't quite love this movie, but I enjoyed it. Everything Is Awesome is awesome.

Transformers (2007)
I have only seen 2 from the current movie franchise, I did enjoy the first movie so it earns a spot on today's picks but the second was just bad that I can't be bothered with the rest especially since the general opinion is that the franchise just get worse with each movie.

Jem and the Holograms (2015)
It got bad reviews with an 18% tomatometer but I still want to see it. I grew up with the cartoons so I am very curious what the live action movie look like. I've always that thought that Jem and the Holograms started as a TV series but actually, like Transformers, the TV series was created to sell toys.

Thursday Movie Picks #125: Your Comfort Movie

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share three movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple simple: Each week there is a topic for you to create a list of three movies. Your picks can either be favourites/best, worst, hidden gems, or if you're up to it one of each. For further details visit the series main page here.

---

This week's Thursday Movie is Your Comfort Movie

---

Your comfort movie - the kind you can watch over and over again and never grow tired of them and lift your spirits when you're feeling blue. I have a quite a few so here's 3 of them.

Stardust (2007)
Absolutely love this movie! I'd say this is a fairy tale for adults, I don't think kids would get much of the humour. Anyway it's such a magical, charming and funny movie; it just makes me happy and I love the score as well. The gist of the story is a young man goes on a journey into a magical world to catch a fallen star for the girl he loves. But he isn't the only one looking for the star: three witches and ruthless princes want the star as well.

Love Actually (2003)
I think everyone would have seen or at least have heard of Love Actually by now. It's the movie that gets played quite a bit during this festive season. You either love it or hate it; I love it! It makes me laugh and cry, I just think it has a lot of heart.

A Little Romance (1979)
I've picked this movie before in the early days of TMP; it's picked again today because I think it's quite a forgotten gem having fallen through the cracks of time and it is one of my favorite movies that I revisit from time to time. It's also one of those movies that I think could do what the Before (Sunrise, Sunset, Midnight) series did, exploring what happens to the characters years or in this case decades later - I would just just love to see it. Anyway...A Little Romance is about two young intellectual teens (I think they're 13), an American girl (a young Diane Lane) and a French boy, who meet in the Palace of Versailles. They become fast friends and soon realise they are probably each others soulmates. When the girl learns her family is moving back to the US, they both run away to Venice to the Bridge of Sigh because legend say that the couple that share a kiss underneath it will be granted eternal love and bliss. The kids are adorable and the movie is just so so charming, shot against some very historic and scenic places in Europe.
