This week's Thursday Movie Picks is All in the Family Edition: Stepfamilies
---
Every last Thursday for the
first nine months of 2015 I'm running the All in the Family Edition and this is the eight theme for the edition. This week turned out to be quite challenging; I don't think I usually notice the family structure depicted, which is in most just in the background of the plot.
Stepmom (1998)
I'm guessing this would be a popular pick for this week for obvious reasons. I remember it to be quite a tearjerker too and young Jena Malone had a big teen angst moment. Another recent movie with a similar plot, but in my opinion not as good is The Other Woman (2011).
Yours, Mine and Ours (1968)
This movie is super cute. The plot is about two families blending together when a widow brings 8 kids and the widower brings 10 kids, making a new large family. There was a remake in the 2000s but I much prefer the original.
Juno (2007)
I've always thought that Juno's parents were incredibly supportive over her pregnancy. Remember there was a scene with the stepmom and the ultrasound technician.

Great choices!!!
ReplyDeleteI picked Yours, Mine and Ours also:) Great choices and I love Juno!!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteTotally forgot Juno was in a stepfamily. Great call.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason the step-family in Juno stood out for me.
DeleteStepmom is quite the tearjerker, and Juno is awesome. I've seen the remake of Yours, Mine and Ours and it was horrible. I will try to watch the original though.
ReplyDeleteOriginal so much better and cuter. Plus also more believable because family size used to be much bigger 50 years ago.
DeleteGreat choices! I think we're going to see Yours, Mine and Ours used a lot today..Haven't seen Stepmom, and didn't even think of Juno as a stepfamily film so good choice there :-)
ReplyDeleteCool. It's such a cute movie and so fitting.
DeleteGreat choices! I also picked Juno. I wanted to pick Stepmom but I tried really hard not to because it was so obvious lol.
ReplyDeleteHaha I know but I couldn't think of anything else.
DeleteLove Yours, Mine and Ours, saw it at the drive-in the first time! Lucy and Henry Fonda made a great team. I liked Juno well enough but thought it was very overpraised for what it was, Allison Janney was great though. Stepmom was horrendous! If it had been any sappier it would have been running through a tree.
ReplyDeleteReally? In 1968?
DeleteYep, I was little but I remember the whole family piling into the station wagon with some of my cousins and having the speaker attached to the side of the car through the window. It was fun, sorry they're not still around.
DeleteGreat picks! I'd forgotten about Yours, Mine, and Ours.
