This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Natural Disaster

---

Quick post today, so I'm just going with recent watches.

Crawl (2019)
During a hurricane, a young woman and her father are trapped when rising flood waters brings in alligators into the lower levels of their house. Natural disaster movie and animals run wild all rolled into one...surprisingly I found this pretty decent. The alligators were scary just being their natural stealthy predator self.

Only the Brave (2017)
Based on a true story about elite firefighters battling a wildfire. Straight forward based on a true story kinda movie...rather conventional. Still I like it. Wildfires are scary and it was fascinating to see what firefighters do to control them.

Twister (1996)
Storm chasers on the brink of divorce tries to insert a measuring device into the storm to advance future weather warning system. I found it a little boring. Didn't really care for the whole storm chasing thing nor the personal drama between the two leads.

  1. I haven’t seen your first 2 picks but have seen the last one which is often on TV and I find it really stupid. I dislike all the actors except for the poor psychiatrist and the old lady. Helen Hunt was irritating beyond belief and the buffoons who travel with her are, well, buffoons. I found it dumb that each twister they encounter is stronger than the last one until the big one where they survive it by a belt and no injuries. Ughh. One thing that is funny, well, not really but near where I live is a drive-in. When it was being played on the big screen an actual tornado tore up the actual screen. No one was hurt.

    1. Well I'm not really sure how twister works...I suppose they may lose or gain strength as they progress?

  2. Ah, we matched with Only the Brave. I think that is a superb film. I included Deepwater Horizon but I'm now wondering whether that is a natural disaster or not?!

    1. Deepwater Horizon - I haven't seen the movie but no I don't think it counts. While the disaster had horrible consequences for the natural environment...it was as I understand it a man made disaster due to negligence and recklessness.

  3. I wanted to see Crawl when it was released but then I completely forgot about it.

  4. I put Only the Brave and Twister on my list as well, although I enjoyed Twister far more than you haha I think it's kind of a classic.

    1. Oh no I do think it quite a classic. I remember it being quite big when it came out. I'm sure it influenced other weather related disaster movies that came after.
