Hey it's February and it's time for the Romance Tropes Edition. Take a look at what's in store for the rest of the month.
February 25 - Romance Tropes / TMP Television Edition: Love Triangles
Today is the last Thursday of the Romance Tropes edition. I hope you had fun with this edition because it's definitely coming back next year and I already have the themes in mind. Anyway today is also the television edition. I'm sure you are spoiled for choice since this is a trope often explored on TV. Here are some of my favourite love triangles.
Felicity (1998 - 2002)
Felicity choose to go to the same college as her crush Ben to be near him and there she meets Noel. This so nostalgic; I grew up watching this, or at least the first two seasons or so. I remember really liking the first season but the second season was bad not just because of the hair. This was so long ago but I think I like both of the boys, Ben was the broodier one and Noel was the more mature one. Anyway...Disney+ finally launched here and Felicity is on it so it's on my to-rewatch list.

Gilmore Girls (2000 - 2007)
Brainy Rory falls for local boy Dean and rebellious new boy Jess. Another nostalgic series I grew up watching. I've watched everything except for the last season and the Netflix revival (so no spoilers please). I think I like Jess more because he and Rory were more intellactually matched. He's quick witted and can banter with the Gilmore girls unlike Dean who I remember not quite getting what they were talking about often. Also I can't believe I have never picked this series for any TMP before.
The Vampire Diaries (2009 - 2017)
Vampire brothers Damon and Stefan have a complicated love hate relationship partly due to the fact that they love the same girl, Elena. I think most people, other then its target audience: teens, didn't really give this a chance because it came out around the time of the Twilight vampire craze that was going on. It's one of my favourite supernatural series. I thought it was a lot of fun and no there are no glittery vampires, they're quire vicious here. I thought the series had greatworld building and mythology for the supernatural creatures. And I like most of the characters as well and if I had to choose, I'd say Damon was a more fun character to watch. He always had a sarcastic comeback at the ready.

Ah, we match! Yay! I like all your picks though I'm least familiar with Felicity. I need to watch that again.
ReplyDeleteAs a Gilmore Girls fan... I recommend to stay away from the revival. Just... it's not worth it (the last season isn't either but it at least has some redeeming qualities).
The reason I haven't seen the revival is because I haven't seen the last season and I haven't seen the last season because I had missed it when it aired back in 2007, and if I want to watch it now I basically have to watch all the seasons since so much time have passed I don't remember much of where the story left off. So I still do want to watch it all, even though it's supposedly bad, just haven't got to it yet.

DeleteI was never a faithful viewer of either Felicity nor Gilmore Girls (my mother and sister were though of GG) but I've seen several episodes of both.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much for vampires so Vampire Diaries never had much attraction but it certainly popular today.
I decided to go way back to shows I watched when I was a kid and that still show up on various nostalgia stations today.
Our Miss Brooks (1952-1956)-High school English teacher Constance Brooks (Eve Arden) is hopelessly enamored with handsome but obtuse science teacher Phillip Boynton (Robert Rockwell). They exist in a sort of limbo land where Mr. Boynton takes it for granted that Miss Brooks will always be there. That is until Connie moves to a new school and the gym teacher Gene Talbot (Gene Barry) tries to sweep her off her feet. At last Boynton’s dander is riled up enough to fight for her.
The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959-1963)-High school student Dobie Gillis (Dwayne Hickman) is hopelessly in love with Thalia Menninger (Tuesday Weld) who hardly acknowledges his existence while Zelda Gilroy (Sheila James) likewise pines for him. Even after Thalia moves away and Dobie, as the title says, constantly falls for a series of beautiful and unattainable girls Zelda continues to yearn.
Petticoat Junction (1963-1970)-When crop duster Steve Elliott’s (Mike Minor) plane crashes near the Shady Rest Hotel in Hooterville he’s taken in to recover by proprietress Kate Bradley (Bea Benaderet) and her three daughters Billie Jo (Meredith MacRae), Bobbie Jo (Lori Saunders) and Betty Jo (Linda Kaye Henning). During his convalescence he and Billie Jo start to date but once he decides to stay in town, he realizes it’s Betty Jo that he really loves.
