This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Globetrotting Movies

There's quite a lot of globetrotting movies, most of them seem to be from the action genre which is what I'll be picking; my most recent globetrotting watches.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
I only started watching MI from Ghost Protocol and I was so confused about Ethan working for the IMF. I was like since when was IMF about espionage. Hilarious right...that I thought the IMF in the MI movies was referring to the real life IMF. It was only after I googled it that I found that MI's IMF stands for the fictitious Impossible Missions Force. Why didn't they just call it MIF the Mission Impossible Force and save us all the confusion? Anyway what I'm trying to say is I really don't care about the plot or what any of the missions are about...the movies are fun because they jet set around the world and have all the great action scenes.

6 Underground (2019)
I like the opening car chase scene, the rest of the movie didn't quite match up to it. Still it is quite a decent action movie. And it was quite impressive that they did all that action pieces and globetrotting considering this is a Netflix film; 6 Underground looked like an action movie bound for the theaters.

Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
It's there in the title, Spider-man and his classmates go on a European trip. I think this is really the first time in any of the Spider-man movies that he's been far from home, all the others they've all just been fully set in New York. Anyway this is a lot of fun and cute.

  1. I enjoy all the films of Mission Impossible and find they seem to get better as they go along. I have not seen the other 2 but should see the Spiderman films with this kid

  2. I hate what Cruise has done to the Mission Impossible story so I haven't seen any since the second one.

I bowed out on the Spider-Man films after Tobey Maguire hung up his costume and they de-aged Aunt May.

Haven't seen the other but it sounds intriguing.

    They all fit very well!

I found three that interconnect in some way.

The Great Race (1965)-Spoof of old time serials with the hero-The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis) all dressed in gleaming white and his sidekick Hezekiah (Keenan Wynn) going head to head with snidely Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon chewing on every piece of scenery in sight) all in black and his faithful assistant Max (Peter Falk) in a continent spanning motor race from New York to Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. Complicating matters is fellow racer, journalist and suffragette Maggie DuBois (Natalie Wood-never lovelier) who butts heads with Leslie as they head over land and sea to their goal. Shootouts, duels, pie fights and all manner of complications ensue!

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965)-In 1910 a wealthy British newspaper publisher Lord Rawnsley (Robert Morley) offers 10,000 pounds (about a million today) to the winner of an air race between London and Paris, a great distance at the time. The contest draws an eclectic and eccentric gaggle of fliers and amateurs including Rawnsley’s rebellious daughter Patricia (Sarah Miles) who compete in all forms of airborne crates including hot air balloons!

Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies (1969)-The 1,500 mile Monte Carlo rally passing through England, Paris, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Monte Gelato Falls, the Treja River, Italy, Åre, Jämtlands and län, Sweden in the 20’s is the setting for this wacky sequel to Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines with some of the characters returning plus Tony Curtis from The Great Race as a brash American.

    1. Mission Impossible - I have not seen the TV series so I have no idea how differently the movies' story is from it. It's too bad that you stop at the second MI movie. I haven't seen the first two MI movie, but generally when ranked by those that have seen them, MI2 is considered the worst in the franchise.

Spider-man - Skip the ones with Andrew Garfield this new ones are the ones to watch, they are really fun and as good as the first two Maguire ones. Lets forget the third ever happen.
