This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Halloween Edition - Teen Horror

---

Hey it's October again and it's time for the Halloween Edition. Take a look at what's in store for the rest of the month.

October 3 - Halloween Edition: Period Drama Horror
October 10 - Halloween Edition: Teen Horror
October 17 - Halloween Edition: Jump Scares that Got You [Suggested by Brittani]
October 24 - Halloween Edition: Rituals
October 31 - Halloween/Television Edition: Horror

I haven't been watching that many teen horror movie in recent years so my options are limited. So like last week, I'm simply going to list some of my recent watches.

The Craft (1996)
I rewatched this a few months ago. It has the typical new girl at school peer pressure plot but with the added witchy supernatural stuff, it was definitely a fun trip back to the 90s and I still like the movie. Apparently a remake or sequel in the works...I am so looking forward to it.

Unfriended (2014)
This was an ambitious movie. It came before Searching (a much better film, though not horror), so I think this was probably the first movie where the entire movie takes place from the point-of-view of a computer (or whatever device they were using) screen. While it was an interesting way to tell a story, it was also very limiting because it meant that Unfriended HAD to have all the scary stuff happen in front of the computer/phone camera...like really? Pretty straight forward story, teens had a hand in a girl's suicide so she haunts them in the new internet/social media age style...overall, just an ok watch.

Don't Breathe (2016)
This was scary. Just when I thought it's one of those home invasion movies, where the victim fights back, like in Hush or You're Next, which are both good movies by the way, Don't Breathe takes a step further and adds an extra twist.

Slender Man (2018)
The teens summon a urban legend character and it haunts them. Honestly I don't remember much anymore, it just wasn't a memorable movie.

  1. Of these I've only seen Don't Breathe and I really liked it. I'm usually not a fan of home invasion movies but that one was really good and creepy as hell.

  3. Don't Breathe was brilliant! I'm glad I listened to all the bloggers I follow because they're the reason I gave it a chance.
I've played the Slenderman game and that was enough for me to never want to see that creepy figure again.

  5. I haven't seen any of these all the way through though I tried to watch The Craft and stopped after about half an hour.

I haven't seen that many teen horrors which made it easier to get down to three.

Carrie (1976)-Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) an introverted teenager is taunted by classmates at school and abused by her fanatically pious mother Margaret (Piper Laurie) at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by teen dream Tommy Ross (William Katt), Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn to a fiery conclusion. Both Sissy and Piper are fantastic in this above average adaptation of Stephen King’s novel.

The Lost Boys (1987)-New in town teen brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) and their mom Lucy (Dianne Wiest) have just moved to a small town in northern California. Somewhat goofy young Sam befriends geeky comic-book nerds Edward (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander) while the combative Michael falls for Star (Jami Gertz). Problem is Star is dominated by David (Kiefer Sutherland), leader of a local gang of vampires. Soon things come to a showdown and Sam and his new friends must save Michael and Star from the undead. A classic case of style over substance, and the birth of the Coreys, but enjoyably junky.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)-Four friends Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Barry (Ryan Phillippe), Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.) are speeding down a road late one night and are involved in a hit and run killing a fisherman which they dispose of in nearby water. They swear to keep it a secret but a year later Julie receives a letter telling her that their crime was seen. Barry thinks he knows who is responsible for the letter but is run over by a man with a meat hook during the pursuit. It’s then that the screaming starts! Wacky trash is fun in its silly way but lead to far too many sequels and copycats.

    1. I've seen all your picks. Carrie is just ok for me. I don't remember much of The Lost Boys anymore. I Know What You Did Last Summer is definitely more of silly teen horror...and stars all of the top 90s teen stars... I think it is probably ripe for a remake soon.
