This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Long Awaited Sequel
---
You know when you watch a good movie and think there should be a sequel and you wait and you wait...well this is a theme inspired by The Incredibles and its sequel which only took 14 years to arrive.
Before Midnight (2013)
Before
Sunset is my favourite, but I had not known there was going to be a
continuation to Before Sunrise, I mean how often have dramas get
sequels? So yeah I had not been waiting for a sequel after before
Sunrise. However, after Before Sunset, of course! Only took 9
years to get Midnight...but that was expected since the gap between Sunrise and Sunset
was also 9 years.
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Since Toy Story 2 came only four years after the first one, this seemed like it was a maybe...maybe not going to happen? But it did!..only took 11 years! Toy Story 4 is coming out next year, no plot details as yet, but let me guess...Andy now has his own place, and his childhood toys are now on display in glass cases as collectibles?
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
I suppose when new Star Wars movies were announced in the 90's, most fans probably wanted a sequel. Well we eventually got the sequel. Only took 32 years to happen.

Haven't seen Before Midnight, or any of that trilogy, so I can't say anything on that. We have a match on your other two picks. Both are very popular today.
ReplyDeleteThe Before series is great. Check it out eventually.
DeleteYikes I haven't seen any of these! The second two are all over the place today.
ReplyDeleteI picked two that were hyped to the skies before their release only to disappoint on arrival and one that wasn't as anticipated but turned out well.
The Godfather: Part III (1990)-Long aborning (16 years between this and Part II) wrap up of the Corleone saga isn’t terrible but a mere shadow compared to the first two. A HUGE weak point is the decision by Coppola to cast his daughter Sofia (a decent director but an atrocious actress) in a key role.
The Rescuers Down Under (1990)-Thirteen years after The Rescuers the R.A.S. (Rescue Aid Society) sends their top two agent mice Bernard (Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor) down under to save a Golden Eagle from the evil trapper McLeash (George C. Scott). So they hop on their trusty albatross Wilbur (John Candy) and are off on their big adventure.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)-Nineteen long years after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade came this uninspired follow-up. It not that the film is horrible but for a Spielberg adventure, especially one with Ford in this role, it’s uninspired. It’s nice to see Karen Allen back in the fold but the idea that she and Ford would produce Shia LeBeouf (!!) takes the film even further into the negative category.
The Godfather and Indy - Yep I have not seen these sequels because I've heard that there were not good.
DeleteToy Story 3 and The Force Awakens are so popular this week! Great picks, by the way. I loved them all.
ReplyDeleteHa ha blockbusters...everyone has seen them.
DeleteThe Before Trilogy is something I haven't tackled yet, I hope to do so eventually. I love TFA but hated TS3.
ReplyDeleteYou like indie type of movie right? I think you'll enjoy the Before trilogy.
DeleteOh no...I didn't think Toy Story 3 is something that can be hated.
Oh, we kind of match.. I like the Before trilogy a lot!
ReplyDeleteThe Before trilogy is great! Just two people talking at its best.
